Female Torsos

The present bas-relief of a "Female Torsos" (a trunk of a nude female) was completed in January 2011 and it is intended for sale. It was entirely hand carved on a 1 ¾ inch board of Pau Marfim (Balfourodendron riedelianum), that is a tough, close grained and quite hard Brazilian wood. I got that inspiration from a not detailed impressionist gravure that lent me the body silhouette only. Considering that I got no live model to show me the anatomical details, I had to carve them relying only on my human body researches and personal sketches. That bas-relief represents a young and vigorous woman standing on a twisted attitude while holding upper head her hair coils. The base is a removable single slab of the same wood joined by means of two strong steel pegs. It took 2 months to be completed and the finishing was done with an opaque acrylic varnish.

Dimensions: 25 ½" high x 15" wide x 1 ¾" thick
