Face that represents Poseidon – the king of the seas according to the Greek mythology, accomplished in April 2010. This work represents a new approach to the previous project made by me in January 2010 named Mask of Poseidon. In this second work I intended to endow him with a more humanized face and also performed some changes in his hair and beard. It was hand carved (in low-relief) on a pau marfim (Balfourodendron riedelianum) board and affixed on a panel made of true Rio-rosewood (Dalbergia nigra). The face finishing was done with opaque vanish and the rosewood panel was finished with wax. Only hand tools were used.
Dimensions of the face: 12” high x 9” wide x 1 3/8” thick
