Slant-top desk

The mini slant-top desk was completed in 2002. The project was conceived according to my personal interpretation of the Portuguese style “Dom Jose I” (Baroque/Rococo styles). It was entirely made of solid Rio-Rosewood (Dalbergia Nigra) salvaged from a demolished rural larder. The available pieces were quite irregular in shape and size (some like scraps). The low relief representing a mounted knight was carved on a thin “tambu” (Aspidosperma olivaceum) board that was attached to the slant-top face. The pair of bronze handles attached to the sides had been bought in an antique shop. The finishing was done with a personally prepared wax. Only hand tools were used except for the large board sawing.

Dimensions: 36” high x 25” wide x 17” deep
